Ralph Guy Castillo is my mother's younger brother. To me he was Uncle Buddy, then Uncle Bud, and now just Unk.

Unk was born in Detroit during the late-thirties to Rafael Maria Castillo (Ralph) and Frances Mary Lyon. Both of his parents had been married before, and both had a son by the previous marriage. The name of Ralph’s oldest son was Louis Castillo; and the name of Frances’ oldest son is Noel Francis. A few years before he was born, his parents had my mother, Carmen Louisa Castillo.

Ralph M Castillo was originally from Venezuela. He and his mother moved to Michigan where his brother, Father Louis, was a Catholic Priest. He met Frances Lyon through his brother's parish. Despite both of his parents being married and divorced prior to their marriage, they were staunch Catholics.

My mother and Uncle Bud met my father and his cousins at Runyan Lake, where their families had summer cottages. In the mid forties, his family moved to Brownsville, Texas for the second and final time. For a while, Unk was shooting for a World's Record in marriages (I have lost track of the number) -- but a decade or so ago he finally settled down and married Kelly. Good move, as they are both very nice people. Bud has four children (Boo, Shelly, David, and Pammy) from his Marriage in the early sixties to CiCi, and he and Kelly have a son by the name of Sterling. Bud’s son David tragically drowned while at sea in the early eighties.
