Rojas and Ganiez have been together for 25 years. They have raised three children and are grandparents twice over. Now, after a quarter century, they are going to be married in a church.
A long time ago they said their vows in front of a justice of the peace, but they never had those public vows blessed by the Lord at the local parish.
It's not that Ganiez had not wanted to go to church for the special service. She has. She says, "I have tried to hint at it many times, but it never happened. He always said getting married is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and he would ask me when the time was best. Obviously, what has happened made him do it."
And what has happened?
For the last month, Rojas, along with 32 others, has been trapped in a mine -- 2,300 feet underground.
The mining company is able to get provisions to the miners, but it may take another four months before a new shaft can bring about the miners' release.
When Rojas is finally above ground, he can expect to be hustled to the church; his bride has her dress selected.
This brings me to the point of this devotion. It's not about marriage as much as it is about having the blessing of the Lord. For this couple, even though they are legally tied together, there is still a desire to have the Lord's benediction upon their life together.
It is the same desire that should be in each of us. We should yearn for the Lord, who already has blessed us with forgiveness and salvation through His Son's sacrifice. He will guide, protect, and bless us wherever we go, in whatever we do.
Thankfully, it is a blessing He is more than ready to give. This is why the following words are just as real today as they were when they were given thousands of years ago: The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
THE PRAYER:Dear Lord, each day You do far more for me than I ever deserve. Now, in humble petition I come to You and ask Your blessing upon my day, my night, my words, my thoughts, and my actions. Bless me and let me glorify You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
