DUMPSTERThis is where threads go to die. Old threads are moved here (and displayed in reverse order) before they're forever deleted. While they'll most likely not be moved out out of the dumpster -- those posted to will gain a short reprieve of a month or two. Obviously no threads are to be started in this forum.
Donations of any size will help to defray the enormous legal costs from a lawsuit filed against the administrator of OldHippie.com, by what many refer to as a "Copyright Troll" law firm, for the posting of a TSA "Pat Down" photo they had bought the copyright rights to, after the photo was posted on this site, and then removed.
I've never been much of a a football fan, so I spent SuperBowl Sunday out in the garage. As you may have guessed, I have once again changed project directions w/ the Stude.
Last week I went on a quest for a long lost part of my '46...... the original chassis. As luck would have it, it was right where I'd left it a few years ago. Ah, good fortunes of treasure hunting:
In reality, it was sitting over at a buddy's place, right along side the old LUV chassis. Aired up the back tires, tied on to it w/ my F600 winch truck, & ran it back to the house al-la tow truck style.

So today I started stripping the Stude off the one ton dually chassis & swapped it back to the original frame. What a work-out. It took a couple hours, but I got the old Stude back to nearly the same condition it was in 5 yrs ago!
Heck, I even stuck the original flathead six back in it! But the 6 will not be staying- its a temporary deal until we get moved. That way I don't have to haul it seperately. The property we're on is an old RV park my father in law owns. Its pretty run-down, as he never put any money into it. Its been up for sale for a while, & we're finalizing a deal w/ a buyer at the moment. So within the next couple months we'll be moving my house to a piece of property I own, and as such I figured I'd drop the six back into the truck temporarily so its one less thing to haul off.
But anyways, enuff of my exciting adventures in life. The Stude will be staying w/ its original chassis & will be built as a hot rod. In the next few days I hope to post some pics of the 10 bolt posi rear I picked up for it recently. It was in a factory 4-link style car, so I'll be lopping off the old brackets & getting it ready for a regular leaf spring style set-up.
I hope I live long enough to see this one finished !!
Heh heh heh- so do I, buddy. So do I.
I wasn't very proficient at 'net research back when I got the truck. Quite honestly, I overcomplicated the build when I got into frame swap mode. I never realized what was possible w/ the stock Stude front axle, so my answer was to drop the body on another chassis.
Long story short, I'm doing what I should have started doing back in '02 when I got the truck. I'm going to lower the front end (reverse the spring eyes, pull a couple leafs, maybe even have the axle itself dropped by a pro), and use a Turner disc brake conversion kit on the front axle. I'm going to mount the rear on top of the springs to get the tail down.
Hopefully when its done, it'll have a late-'60s hot rod vibe to it.
