DUMPSTERThis is where threads go to die. Old threads are moved here (and displayed in reverse order) before they're forever deleted. While they'll most likely not be moved out out of the dumpster -- those posted to will gain a short reprieve of a month or two. Obviously no threads are to be started in this forum.
Donations of any size will help to defray the enormous legal costs from a lawsuit filed against the administrator of OldHippie.com, by what many refer to as a "Copyright Troll" law firm, for the posting of a TSA "Pat Down" photo they had bought the copyright rights to, after the photo was posted on this site, and then removed.
I will be coming back to the Strip after a 37 year layoff. A lot has changed. I am asking for suggestions on which DOT Drag Tire to use on my 2005 Hemi Regular Cab 1500. AIRAID intake, Flowmaster duels, 3:92 gears, Eibach Springs. What size tire/rim combo and brands?
Thanks,

I'd look at the Nittos -- that's what most of the street class cars are racing on.
be aware that any race "Street Tire" is street tire in name only. They'll get you killed in the rain and you might get 1000 miles out of a set. They're really race tires that fit the Hyper-technical joke of "Street Tire"
Thanks HMIFC.
I'm not your average 18 year old thanks for the reply, I'll look at the Nittos but was leaning toward the Hoosiers.

Thanks, Dan.
Retired 14 July 2008 from Oklahoma Air Guard. I ended up in the QA office for my last stint. I started on the Engines and Props of the C-130 then moved to Crew Chief. I had also worked at Vance on the T-38 and T-1 as Structural Specialist. When we were BRACKed we were forced into a consolidation with AF Reserves and KC-135 mission on Tinker AFB. Them guys told us that these were their planes and we couldn't play with them. I decided it was time to leave. Been everywhere, done everthing.

I have a Buick Grand National that I drive to the track, put some 110 octane in the tank, let some air out of the slicks, rip off a dozen passes and then air up the tires and go home. I had MT street slicks on before the Nittos -- and I can tell you for a fact the Nittos are better. There are people going 7-seconds on Nittos in the Hybrid "Street Classes"
And on the safety thing -- I've driven millions and millions of miles, street raced, and race a low 9-second car at the track. That said -- I will never drive a car with either MT or Nittos Street Drags if it so much as sprinkles. I've experienced twice total loss of control of the car that I was driving slower in the speed limit in a light sprinkle.
I have a friend who's father had a 63 Dart with Mickey Street Radials on it. He never drove the car if there was moisture on the road -- but the car was at a muffler shop getting an exhaust system when it started to rain lightly. He felt like it was only a mile to the house -- and son following him watched in horror as his father lost control of the car and hit a traffic light pole -- killing him. He was going about 45MPH.
So that's why I feel like I need to make my point when talking street slicks and getting caught in a Sun Shower. Dale Earnhardt Jr. could easily get himself killed cautiously driving a car with Street slicks on a road with minimal moisture on it. Especially if the car has a spool.
I have experianced DOT dry race tires in the "mist" before. I left a nasty mark on the wall at Topeka on the road course. The Cobra Emblem is still imbeded in the concrete.
Cranky is right, do it old school. A lot of people do. A floor jack, 4 way lug wrench and a couple of jack stands and you are in business. Find a used pair of wheels too.
