Default Bowling Green will not be rescheduled!

We regret to inform you that the Eighth Annual NOS/NMCA Hot Rod & Muscle Car Nationals originally scheduled for May 1-3, 2009 at Beech Bend Raceway has been cancelled. The recent rainout coupled with very aggressive Beech Bend Raceway, NMRA and NMCA schedules make it virtually impossible for the NMCA to return to Beech Bend Raceway and finalize this event in a reasonable time frame.

The Beech Bend event will not be contested however, tech and bonus points will be awarded to all registered competitors who attended the event. Any Heads-Up competitor who does not wish to claim tech or bonus points for this event will be eligible for an $85.00 credit from NMCA as outlined on pages 38 & 41 of the 2009 NMCA Rule Book. Once the points are posted each competitor wishing to receive the credit voucher and decline their points must send a self addressed, stamped envelope along with the competitors name, class, car number, NMCA membership number and social security number to ProMedia Headquarters no later than July 15, 2009. (There is no need to send in your PARTICIPANT TICKET as we have your tech card on file).

If you possess a purple NMCA multi day spectator/crew ticket from the event you are eligible for a $35.00 credit and you may send the physical purple ticket to ProMedia Headquarters along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for a credit voucher. Once you receive the credit voucher (NOT YOUR PHYSICAL PURPLE TICKET) it will be accepted at any NMCA or NMRA future event and will also be accepted at Beech Bend Raceway for spectator/crew admission for regular bracket races for the remainder of the 2009 season. Please be sure to send your tickets and self addressed stamped envelope to ProMedia Headquarters no later than July 15, 2009.

If you possess a yellow NMCA Saturday 1-day spectator ticket from the event you are eligible for a $20.00 credit and you may send the physical yellow ticket to ProMedia Headquarters along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for a credit voucher. Upon receiving the credit voucher it will be accepted at any NMCA or NMRA future event and will also be accepted at Beech Bend Raceway for spectator/crew admission for regular bracket races for the remainder of the 2009 season. Please be sure to send your tickets and self addressed stamped envelope to ProMedia Headquarters no later than July 15, 2009.

Bracket racers, Corvette Rumble and True Street competitors will all be receiving an entry credit voucher that will be accepted at any NMCA or NMRA future event and will also be accepted at Beech Bend Raceway for entry to their regular bracket races for the remainder of the 2009 season. We will automatically send each registered Bracket, Corvette and True Street competitor their entry credit voucher based on the tech card contact information. We are currently in the process of mailing these out and are committed to having them completed and in the mail no latter than Friday, May 8, 2009. (There is no need to send in your PARTICIPANT TICKET as we have your tech card on file). If you competed in any of these three classes and possess crew or spectator tickets please follow the prescribed instructions above for your particular ticket. Please be sure to send your spectator and/or crew tickets along with a self addressed stamped envelope to ProMedia Headquarters no later than July 15, 2009.

Swap Meet and Car Show participants possessing either crew or spectator tickets please follow the prescribed instructions above for your particular ticket and BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR HANG TAG. Please be sure to send your spectator and/or crew tickets, the Hang Tag, along with a self addressed stamped envelope to ProMedia Headquarters no later than July 15, 2009.

We understand that this situation is unfortunate and places a burden on just about everyone involved. The NMCA staff would like to personally thank all those who attended for their understanding and cooperation.

To check on the status of your voucher request you may contact Ms. Gina Garcia at ar1@promediapub.com or (714) 444-2426 #118

Please make your request attention Beech Bend Ticketing. ProMedia Headquarters is located at:

NMCA's Bowling Green Has Been Cancelled

There will be no reschedule

We loaded up the stacker and the motor coach last week and left Wednesday for the 1000 mile trip to Bowling Green. We arrived there Thursday noon and set up the pits.

Thursday night and Friday morning it rained, and we took the cars to tech in while it was only sprinkling. We were the second and third cars to tech in. We immediately put the cars back in the trailer and wiped down. At about 3PM, they had the first part of the track dry -- so the opened it up for 1/8 mile Time Trials -- hoping the exhaust and hot tires would dry the top end enough to start qualifying at 5PM. The top of the track was seeping -- and so they kept with the 1/8 mile until about 6PM -- when everyone was warned that a major storm was coming in -- and the track was closing at 6PM to batten down the hatches. We personally passed on making any of these 1/8 mile passes.

It rained like Hell all Friday night and was sprinkling Saturday morning. The weather forecast was for rain through Sunday -- and I was expecting the NMCA to hold the race over to Monday. I rode the scooter up to the line at 10AM -- and there wasn't a NMCA official to be found. No doubt they would have been pummeled with questions they didn't yet have answers for, so they hung out in Race Control. There was a rumor by someone who is a pretty good friend of the track owner -- that Charlie was waiting until noon to see if the forecast would change -- and would announce if they'd run, cancel, or reschedule. At 11:30, it was announced over the speakers that the race would be rescheduled. A couple of us NSS guys snickered that it wouldn't be rescheduled -- but if they announce it was cancelled, there'd be a run on people getting refunds, which the NMCA didn't want to deal with at the moment.

We pulled out of the track and noon -- and drove the 1000 miles arriving home at 3:30AM.

It was just announced on the NMCA forums, that the race will indeed not be rescheduled, and that racers will get their tech in points for attending (I assume even those who didn't tech in -- but were asked to bring their cards to the registration booth), and the 100 points at the end of the year if they attended five or more races. If that's what you want -- there will be no refund. However, if you are a racer wanting a partial refund of $85 and are willing to give up your points for that race -- you can send a SASE for that partial refund before the points are calculated. Your crew members with a Purple ticket can get a partial refund of $35 -- by returning the ticket and a SASE.

The official version of this summary can be found by clicking here.

They still have to finish the Bradenton race that couldn't finish after all of the crashes after the jet car ran. My Semi-Final round had my normal 1.29 60' turn into a 1.62 60'. The second worst 60' my red car ever had was a 1.54 on a really ****ty track a couple of years ago. I haven't been as bad as a 1.40 in two or three years. The girl in the 66 Chevy I ran had almost as bad of a 60'. I used all of the track all of the way down staying in it and hoping to get lucky. After our run -- there a couple horrible accidents where at least one car was total loss.

Point is that they already have a lot catching up to do - and these races run pretty late as it is. It was 10PM last year at Atlanta -- without any bad weather (just a lot of bad wrecks).

I was expecting that the whole time and can deal with it a whole lot better in 3rd place than if I was in 13th place. I didn't gain any ground -- but didn't lose any.

Maybe I am retarted,,But you would think the NMCA officials would see what those jet cars are doing to the track...They have alot of very fast classes and most on 10.5 tires...Why put racers in harms way to have a stupid four car jet show???Have wheel standers or Nostialgia Dragsters for added entertianment...They have way to many bad crashes at thier races.

There's something political about it.

The jet car is run by a Jet Propulsion school -- who is a sponsor recruiting students at the races. It isn't just business to them -- I think that they just don't understand that some of the classes have a hard time with it.

The fastest classes have 17" slicks, multi-disc clutches, and a tube frame chassis with R&P steering. While faster -- they might be able to adjust more of that out than a 45 year-old unibody car with the aerodynamics of a Coke machine, with torsion bar suspensions tying to do low 9s with a single disc clutch on 10'5W slicks. I don't think they purposely don't care we're in danger -- but that they stereo-type NSS Cars (the 10.5 and faster being some of the harder cars to drive) as a class ran by a bunch of grumpy old men that most likely spend most of their time in front of their house shaking their fist at kids driving to fast. We are so misunderstood that they actually feel like we should be laying down the rubber to establish the grove for the 8-second cars, because they think it is easy to drive a NSS car. We're the red-headed step children to them -- and if the class disappeared -- it would be no sweat off their nuts.

It is just a shame that they look at it in that manner..We are keeping a part of racing history alive with these old cars, plus I think the crowd likes them as well...I think it is alot harder to get an old boat of a car in the nines than a Mustang or Camaro with a nose full of spray...

Reality is that the majority of people under 40 like the Mustangs and Camaros with full electronics and NOS. We're dinosaurs to most of them.
