DUMPSTERThis is where threads go to die. Old threads are moved here (and displayed in reverse order) before they're forever deleted. While they'll most likely not be moved out out of the dumpster -- those posted to will gain a short reprieve of a month or two. Obviously no threads are to be started in this forum.
Donations of any size will help to defray the enormous legal costs from a lawsuit filed against the administrator of OldHippie.com, by what many refer to as a "Copyright Troll" law firm, for the posting of a TSA "Pat Down" photo they had bought the copyright rights to, after the photo was posted on this site, and then removed.
Now that i have your attention, i raced the Good Guys Fri . night drags in the foot brake class, made it to the final three and had a great time. Talking to the regulars, it seems ISC aka NASCAR the new owners makes more money on interrest for advanced ticket sales for the Cup race than the Drag Strip does all year. The talk was on what is the future of the Drag Strip not on what new events would be scheduled. Question is, do we need to run NSS at these corporate tracks or are mid size family owned facilities adequate?

NMCA will explode if they have to find a track to replace Joilet too. That is the Super Bowl race with the NMRA. It takes a full 4 days to get through.
Zmax is another one of those big corporate tracks.
Around me we have Houston Raceway Park, Lonestar, San Antonio International Raceway, Ennis, and a new one up Dallas way. Plenty 1/4 mile tracks that aren't NASCAR owned.
What do you do? Around here most mom-n-pop tracks are 1/8 mile......
We ran at Evansville, In 1/8 mile event that Doug D. set up. left Sat. morn, towed 300 miles, dodged rain, arrived at 1 p.m. had 30 cars show up, two time runs, free barbaque dinner , free entrance, eliminations at 7 p.m., ran two rounds, then rain out left the track at 9 or 10 p.m., towed home Sunday Morn. Had a great time, track owner was happy, said he had lots of spectators, i would do this again in a heartbeat. In my opinion, this format is very viable, through in a few nost. funny, some Gassers if possible. This could be done anywhere. I think too many off us 1/4 mile track guys have a 1/8 mile phobia limiting our possibilities.
We run 1/8 mile most of the time. My son would rather run 1/8 mile. He runs the weekly bracket series. I prefer 1/4 mile, he lets me borrow the car 4 times a year to run NSS!
I will run NSS 1/8 mile if that's all I got, but I'd rather stretch 'er out!
If we could get 30 cars (like you had in Evansville), I know the local 1/8 mile tracks would have us a race. Texas Outsiders had a race at Jackson, TN in '07.
Holly Springs MS is out best local track. LOTS of paved parking, hooking, smooth track, great folks (racers) running the place. They would be happy to have a NSS race. There are half a dozen locals that would make it. Get another 20-30 out of towners....they would jump at the idea. All we (NSS guys) need to do is schedule and advertise. If 10 cars show-up, it would be the last......
Most big tracks live off their national events and big bracket races.
Dave, you've been to Denton. Larry and Rich keep making improvements, and the old match race style events are their lifeline. Pro Mods, 10.5 Street Shootout, Texas Outlaws etc. They had a July 4th party with fuel altereds, wheelstanders, front engined dragsters and the like and had 10,000 people show up. Cripes, they were parked down the access road for the interstate. Rich came up to me and said, and this is a quote, "you guys bring in them way cool Super Stockers, and I'll have to figure out how to get 20,000 people in here!!!..." Realistically, we'll never fill the Motorplex or HRP, but if I (we) could show off in front of several thousand die hard, rowdy, knowlegable classic car freaks, some of them might just join with us. Then we're off an running. Hope so anyway. I've tried to start something so many times, but I'm just not pulling the right levers.
