DUMPSTERThis is where threads go to die. Old threads are moved here (and displayed in reverse order) before they're forever deleted. While they'll most likely not be moved out out of the dumpster -- those posted to will gain a short reprieve of a month or two. Obviously no threads are to be started in this forum.
Donations of any size will help to defray the enormous legal costs from a lawsuit filed against the administrator of OldHippie.com, by what many refer to as a "Copyright Troll" law firm, for the posting of a TSA "Pat Down" photo they had bought the copyright rights to, after the photo was posted on this site, and then removed.
The car arrived the other day and after going through -- this car is too nice for me to run in NSS. The Ray Barton Hemi sounds great, the car doesn't leak or smoke; and the serious race parts list is incredible. Everything imaginable to give it an advantage is on the car. It cost over $90,000 to build for AA/SA. The lug nuts are $40 each -- as they're titanium to take weigh of rotating parts. Doors (with roll down glass), bumpers, fenders, and decklid are fiberglass.
All of the contingency stickers have been removed -- and the car washed and cleaned up.
I got a lot of receipts -- with more coming. I thought that I might run it in NMCA until I got the wagon -- and a few AHRA Stock races, but I've decided not to run NMCA this year and AHRA will have a NSS class. A car like this is made to run NHRA/IHRA SS/SA -- and too expensive and precision to run NSS. As such -- I'll most likely flip.
As what always happens with fiberglass doors -- they're in need of some repair to close right -- and a lot of the body panels need to be lined up. The paint is very good -- but a color sanding and coat of clear will make it excellent. All of that will be done this coming week.
I know that that recent argument is that high 9s is no longer competitive for AA/SA -- since a Fox Bodied Mustang set a new record. However talking to people who race AA/SA, I'm told that the mustangs are now saddled with 165 more pounds, that the few cars that competitive show up at very few regional NHRA/IHRA races, and you have to be matched with one of them in a National event for that to matter. All of that said -- with the new schedules being announced for 2010 -- I think I'm going to stick with NSS racing this year over trying my hand at AA/SA with NHRA/IHRA/AHRA.
Make sure to warm the car up in the morning to get heat in the engine, trans, and rear end. Temperature at launch needs to be 120-140 or the car will stumble.
The valves should be run every time the car is taken out. Intake should be .014 and exhaust should be .016.
Transmission: Change fluid every 25 runs and filter every 50 runs. Check band adjustment every time out.
Change oil every 20-25 runs. Currently has 7 quarts of 10w40 Castrol GTX. Switching to Syntec 10w40 will pick the car up .10 - .12. You can run 5 quarts to pick up another couple hundredths.
Engine has maybe 20 runs since freshened.
The quickest pass at an IHRA event was 9.91 weighing 3620 lbs with driver. Minimum required car and driver weight for the AA/SA class is 3495 lbs. The index is 11.15 so the run was 1.24 seconds under the index. At 1.25 under the index IHRA adds horsepower to the combination. There is a lot left in this car. I ran it extremely soft to keep IHRA from adding horsepower to the combination.
I launched the car between 2000 – 2300 rpm depending on track and light conditions. I shifted at 7000 rpm for both shifts.
Tire pressure in the fronts was 22 – 30 psi depending on reaction times. In the rears was 18 – 22 psi, never below 18 psi because Radials like air pressure. There are 5-8 runs on the slicks.
This car will hook. It has only spun two times and that was because the tires were worn out then.
Got the contingency stickers off, had the badly installed doors adjusted (and latch fixed) to have them close better. Ramirio is going to color sand to brighten up and remove a little dent in the top. We'll most likely take it to the track on Feb 6th (when we take the black car to shake it down and Damon takes Fugly) -- and see what it does and let Damon have a look at it in T&T.
Then I'll most likely flip it on Racing Junk. The car has a lot of trick (and expensive) parts on it to make it as fast as it is, that are best not get into on the board. All legal -- but all an advantage some don't know how to use.
I don't want to run IHRA AA/SA and it would be wrong to run it in NSS. It is set up too much to run on the ragged edge with expensive (and maybe more fragile than I want to deal with) parts -- and the good thing about NSS is that you can go as big as you want on the engine -- and not have to have expensive/light weight parts of the rotating parts. To tell the truth, I bought the car because it was an offer I couldn't refuse -- and I had planned to throw a spare wedge motor in it and use it as a back up for NSS OR maybe run Stock in AHRA with the Hemi -- the more I got into why the car goes so fast with only 426ci, and the more I learned about racing the class -- more I decided it is the wrong car for me. Best to just get it spiffed up and ready for someone wanting to run Stock in IHRA or AHRA.
