DUMPSTERThis is where threads go to die. Old threads are moved here (and displayed in reverse order) before they're forever deleted. While they'll most likely not be moved out out of the dumpster -- those posted to will gain a short reprieve of a month or two. Obviously no threads are to be started in this forum.
Donations of any size will help to defray the enormous legal costs from a lawsuit filed against the administrator of OldHippie.com, by what many refer to as a "Copyright Troll" law firm, for the posting of a TSA "Pat Down" photo they had bought the copyright rights to, after the photo was posted on this site, and then removed.
We're only taking one car to Florida -- and pulling an enclosed with the truck, so I need to take a portable generator.
We hadn't started this generator (Coleman with Honda motor) in over a year. Drained the old gas (wasn't much) and refilled with new. Problem is that it won't stay running with gravity feed.
Dallas can spray gas in a 409 bottle (doesn't sound safe) in the carb and keep it running -- but it won't run on its own.
He's disconnected the gas hose to the motor and when he opens the petcock -- gas flows quickly -- so it isn't a clog.
Most of the time when my coleman 6560 won't run after long periods of non-use. Here is the surest way to get it going: Remove carburetor bowl with 12 mm wrench. You will see a fixed fuel jet screwed into the side of a verticlal tube. (it's the tube from which you unscrewed the bowl screw. The jet is stopped up with varnish. you can remove the jetand clean out the small hole in it, or you can un-plug it without removing it with a (small) paper clip.
Gummed up needle and seat would be my first thought.
Yep, +1 on the gummed-up prognosis. I'll bet the gas was stinky, wasn't it?
I use STABIL on everything that doesn't consume a full tank of ful every month. New gasahol blends are even worse about gumming-up.
Before the last race (so fuel gets circulated), I STABIL everything hat has a fuel tank (race car, 4 wheeler, generator, lawn mover, weedeater, everything), They always start when called-on, in the spring.
I always leave my gas valves turned on now due to the ethanol evaporating so fast and f'n up the carbs. At least with the valves on the carbs stay full.
