DUMPSTERThis is where threads go to die. Old threads are moved here (and displayed in reverse order) before they're forever deleted. Copy of Moparstyle post....gotta make up my mind soon...
I signed the papers to get moving on it a couple weeks ago and prototype engineering is scheduled to be done by EOY . After some phone calls, I have a question....The intake is to be loosely based on the STR design with several mods to make it like the one I run. I am also thinking of making spacers available so it can fit a raised deck. The question is port size-because this is mainly aimed at racers, my original thought was to have the ports cast at Max Wedge size, portable to INDY 440-1 CNC size. I have had calls regarding using it as a lower cost alternative to the crossram and am now wondering if it would be better to cast it smaller with the same potential ported size ...any opinions?

Posted this one on the other board. Thought I should add it to the discussion here.
A smaller port that can be opened up is my vote.
If it is cast with a good exit angle, then it would be fairly easy to upgrade the ports. Perhaps offer the porting as an extra cost service, or maybe include a set of templates/patterns with the intake for the home porter to open them up themselves. I know I would be willing to spend a few extra bucks for a template set to be included, if it was optional.
With the advent of low cost stroker kits, and the price of after market heads coming down, I think folks will like to have an intake they can grow into. Lots of them build the big inch short block then upgrade heads down the road. They could start out with the big intake and stroker short block, then order up their Max port heads, and port match their intake.
hey damon,
the spacer kit would be a great idea..I would like that since
I am putting a low deck 505 in the blue car..But if I wanted to change to a RB it would still work.. I would think max wedge port size would be the right starting point.. an intake like this is to much for stock 906/452 port size... Are you making one to fit my Preditor heads? poppaj
Dont forget about all of us out there running Indy SR's and the Ez's. Those folks could use the smaller port initially, and port it out later as the need progresses.
I tend to agree with GTSDave...build it big enough and leave it up to the port/port matching deal..........give yerself plenty of room for dam near any head...including

I'd lean more toward the MW port -- but it you can do what Mark suggests (BB ports with enough meat to open up for 440-1 heads) -- then that sounds like the best way to have a bigger target market.
