| | Stadium Funding I just wanted to see where folks came down on this issue.
There are a bunch of so called conservatives around here that think funding a new sports stadium is a must.
My personal opinion is that taxing people for a stadium is wrong. It is welfare for the Billionare NFL/MLB owners. I think there should be private funding through shares from fans and out of either the league's or the owner's own pocket.
These people are the first to say cut welfare (which I agree with), but on the other hand want to give money out for a damn stadium.

| | The government shouldn't need to get involved.
That said -- they're the only ones with the might to get a bond to float to fund it, and no private business will build it because they don't know if the teams will come or go. Cities can justify the involvement because the loss of the actually stadiums is more than offset with the money it brings to the local economy -- including the city taxes on hotels rooms and rent-a-cars.
Kinda of a double-edge sword. If they don't do it -- no one will, and the team books to some Liberal city.
On that subject -- how do you like Obama wasting more than $2Million on a Super Bowl commercial telling us to fill out their human registration forms -- out of the wasted $122Million earmarked. Some Obama cronies getting real rich on this one. | | | | Premium Member | | Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: S.E. Texas

| | I would rather gouge my eyes out with a fork than watch any sport other than baseball at a stadium.
That being said, I would not want a dime of my tax money spent on any stadium even if it was for baseball.
Spending money on a playground for a bunch of millionaires is stupid.

| | The problem I see is that once the city or county or state helps build a stadium, the billionaire owner ends up getting all the profits from it's use. That is what happened to the Metrodome here and what is happening with the new Twins Stadium.
I have nothing against billionaires, just them getting welfare.
For what the city and state gains, tax breaks on the property should be more than enough.
As we say in Minnesota........"Go Vikings! take the Timberwolves with you!"

| | Our President is a moron. If that SB spot is costing that much then it is just more proof of it.

| | The locals are always left holding the bag... Up grade a stadium and the teams leaves. Bud Adams comes to mind... I do not like him... A team can bring a lot of money in to business and jobs. I think the team should have to put something.. Not just threaten to leave later
