Post War and 50s American Vehicles (1946-1959)This is the forum for the discussions of American Cars and trucks built after WWII until 195. All makes and models and all topics concerning them are fair game.
Donations of any size will help to defray the enormous legal costs from a lawsuit filed against the administrator of OldHippie.com, by what many refer to as a "Copyright Troll" law firm, for the posting of a TSA "Pat Down" photo they had bought the copyright rights to, after the photo was posted on this site, and then removed.
I went to Lori's (Mike's sister who is a mechanic) shop today and they were working on a 1954 Packard - it was in great condition - all shined up with LOTS of chrome, and it was huge. I was wondering what kind of gas mileage it would get. Does anybody know?

I would imagine around 10-16 mpg. The old cars didn't fair very well on mileage, but people didn't drive them very far or very fast.

Tell us about it: My 83 year old Dad comes down from Idaho every year, went to see his pals one morning at the donut shop. Comes home an sez "come on, I want you come take a look at this car the guy only wants $7500 for it " So we trailered it to my ranch and thus began an 18 month "rebuild" It's now his daily driver, weather permitting.
Alright, just noticed, this is in the wrong forum

I had a 1954 Packard, very comfortable and powerful cars, however, the Ultramatic transmission was not one of the best in the business! I got about 8 miles to one Imperial gallon(4.54 litres)

Wow. This is one mighty fine vehicle and the picture of the goods under hood is looking swell. You did all the work and the shopping of auto parts? Good job at putting them all together.
