Post War and 50s American Vehicles (1946-1959)This is the forum for the discussions of American Cars and trucks built after WWII until 195. All makes and models and all topics concerning them are fair game.
Donations of any size will help to defray the enormous legal costs from a lawsuit filed against the administrator of OldHippie.com, by what many refer to as a "Copyright Troll" law firm, for the posting of a TSA "Pat Down" photo they had bought the copyright rights to, after the photo was posted on this site, and then removed.

Tell us about it:I've had this truck "built" in my head a hundred times, & have collected (& then sold off parts for) at least 3 different versions. At the present stage, its been relocated to a '69 F350 dually chassis. I rounded up some "big truck" style fenders to clear the bigger tires, & will either add about 8" to the original bed- or just swap a longbed stepside onto the project. The F350 chassis was shortened to a 120" wheelbase (stock M5 WB was 112"). As for the motor plan- I'm dead honestly not sure at the moment. At present, I have a 300 six cyl Ford, a 6.2 GM diesel, or a 455 Buick. I think (& I stress the think part) it'll be one of those. I do believe this truck will be built in its present version, as there are a ton of beautiful original examples of the M5s out there, & even more awesome "street rodded" types rolling down the roads. I thrive on being different when it comes to old vehicles, & I like the fact that there is a very good chance I'll have the only '46 Studebaker dually at any event I'd attend.
You could always put it on the road and hang with the ratrod crowd... until you get the time or money to finish it!! ..
going to be one bad as$ truck!!

Tell us about it: There are is not much extra on this car, cept for the 4.88 gears. Scary on the street sometimes. I bought this car pretty much where it is right now, just added a couple of things. I have under 9K in it.
I can't say the same for my second posted Studebaker. I'm ashamed to say what I have soaked into that one, SO FAR.

Tell us about it: Been working on this for awhile. Did have an engineer building it, but he had everything screwed up. So, I went and bought the equipment I needed to do the job, and rebuilt all he messed up. It has a Fatman MII front suspension and an Art Morrison ladder bar/coil over rear suspension. 78 Lincoln 9 inch gears. I moved the engine back 8" and lowered it deeper into the frame 2". I fabricated the surpentine belt system, and mounted the power steering pump backwards because of lack of room between engine and frame. Run it off back side of belt so it turns correct direction. Didn't like the brake booster and cylinder on the firewall, found a spot under the toe boards that it fit just right, mounted at a 90 degree angle with bellcrank.

Tell us about it:
I bought this car off of Ebay in Late 2003 as a nicely restored vehicle. I spent approximately 2 years restoring it and making it right. When purchased, I had it shipped to Houston sight unseen. It wouldn't even back off of the trailer, reverse was shot. About three weeks later after getting the transmission working and fixing the brakes that were "brand new", I finally got it on the road only to find out the engine backfired regularly. It wound up having a flat lobe on the camshaft.
I called it quits after that and took the entire car apart. I had Jeff at Westside Performance build ma a 383 stroker small block Chevy to accomidate a Vortech Supercharger. On the Dyno it produced 510Hp with the slowest supercharger pulley I could find. It produces a maximun of 5psi it's turning so slow. I had a friend of mine paint the car my wifes favorite color of red and had a custom leather interior made.
I have a ford 9" rear end under it with a Detroit Locker assembly with 3.50 gears. Disc Brakes in the front, Power steering and Air conditioning round out the options.
It flat out screams and is probably the most dangerous car I own.

Tell us about it: Another Ebay Find, This time well represented to be the basket case it was. Originally a V.8 stick car. It has now undergone a complete frame off "restoration". Mark at Texas Thunder Racing Handled mocking up the 440, 727 and built the headers for the car. He also built the disc brake set up for the front. This car isn't finished yet. I have a 500CI Big Block sitting in the garage from DiamondBack Engines to go in it.
Paint? We don't need no stickin paint.
Mark and Crew testing spring rebound?
Body Off of frame...just so you believe me.
Sprayed whole underside of body in silver Por15. Painted frame and components in chassis black.
