Scale Model Cars, Truck, Planes, and ShipsThis forum is for discussions regarding scale model vehicles. News on new releases, tips on building, showing of yours -- anything concerning scale models.
Donations of any size will help to defray the enormous legal costs from a lawsuit filed against the administrator of OldHippie.com, by what many refer to as a "Copyright Troll" law firm, for the posting of a TSA "Pat Down" photo they had bought the copyright rights to, after the photo was posted on this site, and then removed.
For the 1st time in several years, I've started a model car build.
I picked up the kit a few yrs ago at a discount store, opened it, looked at it some, then put it up on a shelf in the closet- right next to a Mustang kit that I'd started years ago & never finished.
The truck I'm building will be basically box stock, though it won't be the '70s flavored show rod it was marketed as. I've got a thing for the nose-high "gasser" look. I raided my tire & rim box for some new rolling stock, cut the dropped front axle loose from the leafs & I'll be either flipping it over or building a straight axle from some Plastruct tubing. I also lowered the rear a touch.
I'll be making the rear pie-crust slicks into whitewalls (you can tell they were done a long time ago- poorly, I might add!). Not sure what color the front steelies will be when its done. The body of the truck will be a satin burgundy, with a white roof.
I'm not a super detailer, but more of a basic shelf model type of builder. Anyways, here's a couple pics of my progress so far:

Got some paint on the body today- not the best, but it'll do.
I also scratch-built a new set of front leaf springs & am building a tube axle. I didn't like the kits axle, as I felt it was too narrow... & it looked a li'l funny having a dropped axle flipped upside down. The kits leafs weren't arched enuff to get the nose up in the air w/ the tube axle I'm making, so I made a pair of leafs to remedy the situation.
I don't know about 46stude, but building models is a creative outlet for me. I have a ton of ideas for cars but not the money to build all of them for real, so I build them in scale. I also would love to own a number of different cars, but once again can't afford to own all of the real ones, so I own them in scale.
I'm the same way- its a creative outlet that allows me to build some of my "visions". In a way, I guess the Zen thing is a fairly accurate description.
Matter of fact, this model truck is based on an idea I have for the '49 Stude truck I own. They don't make a kit of the 2R5 pick-ups, so I built this Ford in its place.
Talk about studes did I ever tell you my buddy has over a hundred of them? If there's any parts you're looking for just let me know and I'll see what we can dig up.
