| | Teamster Plowmen Angry That They Won't Get Paid When There's No Snow http://www.businessinsider.com/chica...-no-pay-2010-1
Rich Daley, Mayor of Chicago, is feuding with Teamsters officials over his plan to limit pay for snow plowers.
The argument is that if there's no snow on the ground, plow drivers won't be paid and will be sent home after two hours. CBS: Airport snow removal is carried out by Teamster drivers. Half of them are full-time, year-round airport employees. The other half are part-time seasonal workers, who, until this year, came to work and put in eight hours, even when there was no snow.
"You can't guarantee someone not to work for eight hours ... you just can't do that, whether in government or in the private sector," Mayor Richard M. Daley said.
This is the same union that refused the mayor's request that they take furlough days like other city employees and ended up sacrificing members with the least seniority to layoffs. Continue reading ->

| | Government employees shouldn't be allowed to unionize....whether it is municipal, county, state, or federal.

| | Years ago I had a supervisor that wanted everyone to suck up to him. I sucked up to no one and for that one reason, he hammered me and tried to blame me for everything that went wrong but I did my job and did it well but that wasn't enough. If it wasn't for the union, I would have been fired. A union is only as good as it's members and who they elect to run the show can make it work like it's supposed to or break it....just like the morons that are running the country right now! I agree that in some areas, unions are really not needed but in other areas, they are. I also feel that if all states had the right to work laws like Texas, unions would be more inclined to do the right thing instead of acting like brats.

| | In my opinion Unions are needed nowhere. If a person dislikes their job, environment, or pay, they are free to leave. Paying somebody to be the go between from you and your boss is ridiculous.
All it is, is extortion against the company.
I probably will not buy an American car next time around due to what the UAW brought upon us. I'm not paying for them to destroy the country anymore. | | | | Senior Member | | Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Shelbyville
